Meet the Owner

Eric Widmeyer started New England Watersports in 2019 after feeling frustrated that local kayaking rental rates seemed overinflated and lacked access to the most scenic paddling on the Connecticut Shoreline, if not all of New England: The Thimble Islands of Stony Creek in the picturesque town of Branford.  Eric has been a math and social studies teacher since 2005, but discovered a latent entrepreneurial spirit and desire to share his love of the water with others.  He currently lives in Branford with his wife and two wonderful children, who also enjoy spending summers on the water. He helps coach youth lacrosse in Branford and despite being from Ohio originally, loves everything about New England and views it as a four-season paradise.
